Abreviations: Fi: Fighter Th: Thief BB: Black Belt RM: Red Mage WM: White Mage BM: Black Mage Kn: Knight Ni: Ninja Ma: Master RW: Red Wizard WW: White Wizard BW: Black Wizard NPSG: Nintendo Power Strategy Guide While my big elaborate walkthru was still in the process of being put together I decided to write up this quick one. I did the whole thing from memory (with the help of the NPSG) so there may be an error or 2. I don't specifically mention it most places but remember to watch your HP and HEAL or CURE yourself as necessary. Also heal yourself up before all the big battles. First you pick a response rate. I use 8, you may want to start at 4 or so if it's your first time playing. 1 and 2 are just unbearable. Next you pick a party. Here's a rundown of the classes: Fighter: He's the best attacker and has the most HP. He's basically a death machine. (Hey wait, that's what WarMech is called in the Japanese version.) When he becomes a knight he can equip almost everything and can learn white magic up to level 3. I would definately recommend that you use one. Thief: In the beginning the Thief is basically a Fighter that just isn't nearly as good. His ability is that he's really good at running away, which can be pretty handy. No, he can't steal. :( When he becomes a Ninja he can equip a lot more stuff and can learn black magic up to level 4. Black Belt: The Black Belt basically sucks in the beginning. After he gets up in levels he'll do better without weapons equipped. This also applies to armor. His unequipped weapon power is twice his level and his unequipped armor is equal to his level. The Black Belt gains nothing by becoming a Master. Red Mage: Jack of all trades, master of none. He can do it all: fighting, white magic, black magic; he's just not very good at any of it. He's still pretty damn useful tho. He's even more useful after he becomes a Red Wizard. Having an extra LIFE, EXIT, FIR3, or FAST can be pretty handy. By the end, unfortunately, he gets slightly less useful because his attack skills are a little lacking and he can't learn level 8 spells. White Mage: She's the healer and protector of the group. She can also kick undead ass! When she becomes a White Wizard she can learn every white magic spell. Black Mage: Who needs fighting when you can just kill everything at once? Master of black magic, the BM is one powerful SOB (not to mention how cool he looks). When he becomes a Black Wizard he can learn every black magic spell. This is my favorite, so I'd recommend him too. Parties: Fi,BB,WM,BM - The traditionally recommended party. It works well. Fi,RM,WM,BM - My favorite, great for beginners and vets. Having 2 good fighters, 2 white magic users, and 2 black magic users is just handy. Fi,Th,WM,BM - This was the first party I played with. It's also pretty good. Fi,Fi,WM,BM - This is really good, but I don't especially like having more than one of the same class. Fi,Th,BB,RM - This is the default party on the NES. I suppose it's good, but I don't like having that little amount of magic. Fi,Fi,Fi,RM - This should be really, really good. It's probably the best to win as fast as possible. WM,WM,WM,WM - Supposedly the hardest party to win with. It's a fun challenge. BM,BM,BM,BM - I haven't tried it, but it sounds like fun. I imagine it'd be hard, but eventually having 4 NUKEs, yes!! :) Pick whatever you like, but I must absolutely recommend you have at least one magic user. For one thing magic is fun, but more importantly you can't get out of the final dungeon without either EXIT or WARP. Chapter 1: Coneria: You start off outside of Coneria with 400G. Head on in, talk to everyone and see what they have to say, or don't. What the hell do I care? Anywho, head up to the weapon shop and buy this stuff: Fi: Rapier Th: Rapier BB: Wooden Nunchucks RM: Rapier WM: Iron Hammer BM: Small Knife Then go to the armor shop and buy this: Fi: Chain Mail Th: Wooden Armor BB: Wooden Armor RM: Chain Mail WM: Cloth BM: Cloth Then go buy magic. BM should get FIRE. You don't need LIT yet but you could get it anyway. WM should get CURE. RM should get CURE and you can get FIRE if you want, but you don't need it. You'll prolly run out of money before you get all of those spells so head outside and fight imps. Fight imps, wolves, and mad ponies but this early don't fight 4 mad ponies or you'll get your ass handed to you. Remember to head to the inn often to save. Keep fighting until you can buy all the spells you want and you reach level 3. Then head up north to the Temple of Fiends. (You don't actually need to be at level 3, most parties can go at 2, and some can do well at 1, but the safe plan is to go at 3.) Temple of Fiends: First go to the rooms in the top and bottom left, and get all the treasure there. You should probably equip the cap on the highest party member who isn't a fighter, but this early in the game it doesn't matter much. Don't bother with the room on the right, they're locked. Head into Garland's room in the center. He'll insult you and then fight. He is incredibly easy! Just have everyone fight except BM who should cast FIRE. If someone gets low on HP the WM (or RM) should cast CURE. After that, talk to the princess. You'll be brought back to the castle. Talk to the princess now and she'll give you the LUTE. You'll use this later in the game, but it is handy now. It will keep you from wasting your items accidently if you happen to hit the A button a few too many times. Talk to the king and he'll have a bridge built to the main continent. Buy some PURE potions and maybe some HEALs and a TENT or 2 before you go. You BM should grab LIT if you didn't get it before. The Blind Old Witch: Head stright up and you'll end up at Matoya's Cave. Some jerk stole her crystal which she needs to see. There's a couple of chests to raid while you're here. Talk to the broom and he tells you a magic spell: TCELES B HSUP (PUSH B SELECT). Go outside and try it, hold B and press select and it will bring up a map of the world showing your location and all the important points around the world. Now go east until you get to Pravoka. Arr Matey: Pravoka's been invaded by pirates! Go to the inn, then go talk to their captain, Bikke. You'll fight 9 of them. Don't worry, tho. They are actually weaker than imps! They hit harder so watch your HP. Just have everyone attack a different pirate and they'll be gone in 3 or 4 rounds. After that, Bikke'll still be there. Talk to him and he'll give you his ship. Next hit the armor shop. Fighters should get a Wooden Shield and everyone should get gloves. Go to the weapon shop next, Fighters should get short swords, and Red Mages could too. Thieves should get Scimitars. At this point you don't actually need the spells here. You may want ICE for BMs and to a lesser extent INVS for WMs. Not enough money? Get on the ship and go east to the Dwarf Cave. (That is, sail as far east as you can, then go north. You'll see a port there. Then go south and you'll be at the Dwarf Cave.) Chapter 2: Cave of the Vertically Challenged: Go up as soon as you enter and into the room there. You'll get over 1000G out of the chests, big help for a spell or weapon you might want. Now sail south to ElfLand. Hope you brought your wallet: In ElfLand you learn that the prince has been put under a sleeping curse by Astos, who also stole Matoya's crystal. (What an ass!) There are plenty of things to buy here. You can make money fighting ogres and such. So here's what to buy: Weapons: Fi,RM - Silver Sword Th - Sabre BB - Iron Nunchucks Armor: Fi - Wooden Helmet, Iron Shield everyone else - cap You could also get WM & BM Copper Bracelets, but it'a not all that important. L3 Black Magic: RM - FIR2, LIT2 BM - FIR2, LIT2 L3 White Magic: RM - CUR2 WM - CUR2, HRM2, AFIR L4 Black Magic: RM - FAST, ICE2 BM - FAST, ICE2 L4 White Magic: RM - PURE WM - PURE, AICE Well, that's a hell of a lot of dough. The first priorty should be that FIR2 spell, then the weapons. Also keep at least 5 PURE potions on hand, maybe get more. Finger Point: Once you have FIR2 (or to a lesser extent HRM2) you should go to the penninsula northeast of Pravoka. Powerful monsters live there, with lots of gold and experience. With FIR2 you can fight frost wolves, trolls, and zombulls. With HRM2 you can take on zombulls, but you'll have a hard time finding them without a troll in the mix. You'll gain levels quickly and get the cash to buy those silver swords and more spells, all of which will make the process easier. Be sure to bring lots of TENTs to save between battles. You'll be heading to the Marsh Cave next to get the stolen crown. The NPSG says you should be at least at level 8, but by using the above level gaining strategy you can easily get well into the teens. Make sure to get MUTE and LIT2 before you go, and bring at least 10 PUREs and 20 HEALs, and some TENTS to save. Go west from ElfLand, then north until you get to an opening between mountain ranges, go south until you find a hole in the ground. The Smelly Old Cave (it's scary!): 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678 This place can be pretty dangerous if you're at a low enough level, and it's damn creepy! Don't bother fighting things that can posion you, like werewolves, arachnids, scorpions, and especially scum. On the first floor go south until you get to a room, there's a ladder inside. On this floor, go all the way south (the one room has a short sword in it) and then go right, in and out of the room there and to the staircase. Now on this floor use this little map here: 1 X X X 2 3 X X X 4 X X X X X X Each number or X represents a room. Get the treasures in rooms 1, 2 & 3, and the Crown is in 4. You can skip 1, since its treasure is also in 3. Don't bother with any other rooms (the ones at the bottom are locked anyway). In front of the chest in 4 are wizards! At a low level the wizards will kick your ass, but you should do fine as long as you're packing LIT2 and/or some silver swords. So basically, use LIT2 twice and they'll be dead, or just whack away at them. Get the crown and haul ass out of there. Then go north until you reach the Northwest Castle. That Spooky Castle With the Green Dude in it: Head in to Astos' with the crown and there'll be a fight. At as high a level as you should be Astos will go down quick. Watch out for his RUB spell, he'll use it right away. You might want to reset if he manages to kill someone with it (that's what I do). Just make sure to use a TENT outside. WM and RM could cast MUTE until it works. BM should cast FAST on your fighting characters then cast FIR2 or LIT2. Everyone else should fight. Winning gets you the crystal. Take it to Matoya to get the herb the elf prince needs. Take that to him to get the Mystic Key. There are a few places that had locked doors: Coneria Castle, Temple of Fiends, the Elf Castle, Marsh Cave, Dwarf Cave, and the Northwest Castle. All are worth the trip treasure hunting except the Marsh Cave. (That's not entirely un-worth it though.) You have to go to Coneria Castle to get the TNT and to the Dwarf Cave to give it to Nerrick so he can finish his canal. All the chests in the Dwarf Cave are standard stuff, but give the Silver Armor to RM, and the Dragon Sword to Th. With the canal open you can sail out to Melmond. Chapter 3: This Rots: Here in Melmond you see that the earth is rotting. The locals blame the vampire. You meet Dr. Unne here, he'll be important later. At the armor shop buy Silver Bracelets for WM & BM. There aren't any weapons here you'd want. As for magic get BM & RM FIR3 and get WM & RM CUR3 and LIFE. Later get RW LIFE & WARP and get BW WARP. Head west and then south to the Earth Cave. Make sure you've gotten LIT2 for the people who can learn it and plenty of SOFT potions, there are wizards and coctrices on the lower floors. Also by this point you should have enough dough to be packin' a whole crapload of HEAL potions. Soon you'll be carrying 99 of them. The OTHER Smelly Old Cave (not as scary): On the first floor going north or southeast will take you to some piddly treasure. To the west is a hall where there are giants and/or iguanas at every step. You could go there to gain levels & gold but Finger Point is a better place for that. To the east is the stairway to the next floor. On this floor go down, right-up, right-down, down, right, keep going until you get to another room with more than one way to go, go right to get some treasure (the Coral Sword is as good as the Dragon Sword, give it to a different Thief if you have more than one). Then go down as far as you can, then right and up to the stairs. On this floor, generally speaking, the farther out of the way a chest is, the crappier the contents are. Watch out if you do decide to get the large sums of gold here, they are guarded by earths, which you can't run from. Also watch out for the wizards on this floor. Anyway, navigating this floor is simple, it is basically a circle. Go around counter-clockwise hugging the wall and you end up at the Vampire's room. Fighting Vampy is simple, just cast FAST, fight, and cast your best fire & harm spells. He's actually weaker than Astos, but he can hit harder. Now get the ruby from the chest in his room and go back the way you came. The Big Guy (bad teeth): Take the ruby to the north and west to the Titan's Tunnel and give it to him so he'll let you pass. Grab the treasure here, (the Silver Helm'd be good for a Fighter) and head out and around to Sarda's Cave. The Old Guy (no teeth): Talk to Sarda and he'll give you the rod. (No, that's not a metaphor, but wouldn't that make for an interesting game?) Now go back thru the TT and back to the Earth Cave. (Well, you prolly wanna go to Melmond and stay at the inn first.) Jeez, what's that smell? A 2000 year old corpse?: Head back down thru the cave like before. Use the rod on the stone plate behind the vampire's room and head down the stairs. This floor is easy too. After going left and up, the choices are left and up. Heading up gets you to a treasure room. After that go left. Don't worry about getting lost, there aren't any dead ends. At the bottom left is a treasure room (give the Silver Shield to a Fighter) and the top left is the stairs. Now on this floor just choose the left path at every chance and you'll end up at Lich's room. Lich is pretty easy too. Standard things: FAST, fight, FIRE/HARM, he's dead quick. Step onto the altar and the Earth Orb will light, then step onto the teleporter to go back outside. Chapter 4: The Delicious Pastry Town: Get on the ship and head to Crescent Lake. You can get there by following along the southern coast past ElfLand and such, but there is an easier way. Head south around the Earth Cave penninsula and go west and you'll loop around to the east side of the world. Crescent Lake can be found at a port that points out. Park there and head west to the town. The important thing here is the canoe. One of the sages in the Circle of Sages on the east side of town will give it to you. You can pick up any silver weapons and armor you'd want here. Don't get Silver Armor for a Figher, Iron Armor is better. The buckler is good because it's a shield that a Thief and Red Mage can use. For spells, get a BM LIT3 and RUB. Later, get RW LIT3 and EXIT. WM should make sure to save room for EXIT. Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Gently Down the Stream...... Going by the book you would now be going to the Gurgu Volcano. A different choice would be the Castle of Ordeal. Head down to "Why the Hell Wouldn't I Have the Crown by Now?" if you want to go there. Anywho, to get to the Volcano follow the river that empties into the Crescent Lake and go west, north, east, west, and west. The Big Firey Hole: On the first floor just head west to the stairs. Watch out for the lava floors that damage you at each step. On this next floor to make it simple you can just head west to the next staircase. The rooms are full of treasure. Mostly money and silver equipment, the only unique item is the Giant Sword. If you decide to get the stuff (there is a lot) watch out for the fires and grey worms that guard most of them. On this next floor just go east and you'll eventually reach the stairs. Now on this floor go southwest to the next stairs. Now here go south, west, south, west to the stairs. I don't need to tell you about this floor because it's simple enough and you should get all the treasures. The Ice Sword and Flame Shield are especially useful. On the next floor there are only 2 good ways to go. To the west is the Flame Armor and to the southwest is Kary. The Flame Armor is guarded by a Red Dragon and Agama (which you'll have to fight twice). After that it's easier to head straight down through the lava instead of back to the center of the room. Kary is understandably harder than Lich. You'd think ice spells would work good but they don't. STUN and SLEP are supposed to be effective but I've never had any luck with them. Start with AFIR and other protective spells like INV2 and use FAST on your fighting characters. Then cast the most powerful attack spells you have like LIT3 or FIR3. As before, step onto the altar to light the Orb of Fire and then teleport outside. Canoe back to town and then board the ship. If you already came to the Ice Cave you should be going to the Cardia Islands next. See "Those Pansies Again" down below. Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland: There are 2 ways to get to the Ice Cave. One is to park at the port to the east, I prefer to park at Pravoka and walk. Head into the river, go north, east, west, and west. More than anywhere else, you should definately have 99 HEALs by this point, and always keep that many. The first floor is simple, go east, south, then west to the stairs. This next floor is a big square and you need to get to the opposite corner. The lower path is supposed to have less mages. (Mages can cast RUB, hope you learned LIFE.) The next floor is so unbelievably simple, this sentence is already longer than it would've been had I actually told you what to do. :) Anyway on this next floor go around and into the room. Watch out for the holes and go around to the left to get the Flame Sword. It's not as good as the Ice Sword you probably already have, but it's good if you have an extra person to give it to. Step into any hole to go to the next floor. On this floor you'll fight a big pack of undead critters as soon as you step down. It's probably best to run from them. Watch out for ice floors that damage you at every step. If you go west you can get the Ice Armor. It is guarded by Frost Dragons. To fight them use fire spells, AICE, and MUTE. Watch out, if you get the other chest (silver gauntlet) you'll have to fight them again. Next head down until there is a way left and right. The right way is to the stairs and the left way leads to a whole bunch of money. The last 2 chests are guarded by frost wolves but it's worth it. Use the same tactics as for the frost dragons. The stairs take you to a different part of the first floor. Get all 5 chests but don't take the stairs, they lead outside. Then go into the hole. You end up in the middle of the room with all the holes, don't go into them. Step up to the chest and you'll fight the eye. The eye has a lot of deadly spells to take you out with. Use the standard tactics: FAST->fight->strong attack spells. MUTE would be good too. Grab the floater from the chest and go into one of the holes. Go thru this floor like before and on the next floor take the stairs to outside. Take the river back out to the ship. Now head to the Ryukahn Desert which is south of Crescent Lake. Ahem, There's Sand on my Boots: Walk into the desert and use the floater. The airship will rise out of the sand. Get in and you can go anywhere you want. The first place you should go is the Cardia Islands and the Castle of Ordeal. If you've just been jumping around thru the walkthru with my crazy directions your next stop is the Gurgu Volcano. Go to "The Big Firey Hole" above. Chapter 5: Bunch o' Wussy Dragons: The Cardis aren't hard to find, they're a strip of islands that go between the two northern continents. The dragons there tell you about rewards of courage. There's a crapload of treasure here. Next head off to the Castle of Ordeal. Why the Hell Wouldn't I Have the Crown by Now?: The Castle of Ordeal is on the continent east of the Cardia Islands. You get to there by parking the airship way over to the east. Watch out, this area has some of the most powerful overworld enemies. Another way to get there is to take the ship and park at the river just north of the castle. On the first floor the old man there tells you that you need the crown to use the transporters, which is stupid since you can't get this far without the crown. Anywho, the next floor is a maze. Generally, you pick the lower pillar of those available, but I'll guide you thru it anyway. Use these pillars: only, only, lower, only, lower, only, lower, get the chest (the Zeus Gauntlet will cast LIT2 when used as an item in battle) and take the lowest one, then take the stairs. The last floor is simple. There is some great stuff here too. As you enter the room you'll fight a nitemare or 2, they shouldn't be a problem, you can run if you like. The first chest has the Heal Staff. It is in my opinion the most useful item in the whole game. Other chests have a Gold Bracelet and an Ice Sword, both are very good. The chest before the exit has the tail, it is guarded by zombie dragons. You can fight them over and over to gain levels. If you skipped ahead to here you're going to the Ice Cave next. Go up to "Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland" above. Those Pansies Again: Take the tail back to Bahamut in the Cardia Islands to get your class change. Most classes can now learn more spells, especially Knights and Ninjas. Head back to Coneria, Pravoka, and ElfLand to fill 'em up with cheapo spells. And if you didn't come here before there's a lot of money to get. (You'll be glad to know that all the skipping around in this walkthru is done.) Chapter 6: Death to the Outsiders: Head to Gaia next. It is the town in the mountains far to the northeast of the world map. This is a supply stop because you don't really need to come here yet. Get ProRings for everybody, they protect against RUB, and get a catclaw for BW. You probably can't use any of the spells here yet but when you can get every level 7 spell here. The RW is only able to learn ICE3. For level 8 spells (RW can't learn any) get FADE, WALL, STOP, and ZAP! Next stop is the Waterfall. Take the river up from Onrac. Hmm, I Feel Moist: There's only one floor here. Go left, up, left, and down and you'll get to the room. Watch out for the enemies as you enter. There'll be a combo of mummies, wizard mummies, cocktrices, and perilisks. Ouch! Just run! Talk to the robot to get the cube. The chests are all good. Give your Kn, Ni, or RW the Defense. The Wizard Staff casts CONF in battle.and the ribbon is a damn handy item. It counts as a helmet and protects you from all sorts of crap. I hope you have EXIT, it's a nasty walk back out. Go to the Caravan next. It is near the oasis in the desert west of Onrac. Watch Out, They Spit: You can land the airship on the Caravan spot. This makes it the only desert in the game that you can land on. Hope you brought your wallet, the Caravan's only item for sale, the bottle, is 50000G! You can actually buy as many as you want but it only wastes your money. If you try to use the bottle a fairy pops out. Go back to the spring at Gaia and the fairy will give you Oxyale. Go to Onrac next. Submarine? What the Crap?: There's no weapon or armor shop in Onrac. Most of the spells suck too. The only one that's any good is HEL3. Anyway, talk to the lady with the submarine and take it to the Sea Shrine. How Exactly are we Breathing Here? Did we Drink the Oxyale before we came, or do we Take a Sip Whenever we Need it?: There are chests in the first room on each side, both have money. Go to the stairs on the top right. Watch out for Ghosts, you can't run and they're frickin' hard. On this floor get the chest in the room right by the stairs, then go up and left to the next room (Light Axe, casts HRM2), then left all over to the room with the Mage Staff, then go all the way up to the room with the Opal Armor (great for the Kn), then down, to the right, and up to the stairs. This floor is simple, there aren't any enemies here. Just get all the chests and get out. Take the slab back to Dr. Unne in Melmond so he can teach you Lefeinish. Then go back to the Sea Shrine. (You could skip ahead for treasure before you come back here.) This time (on the first floor) go to the stairs in the top left corner. On this floor go left and then up until you reach the stairs. The next floor is simple, and so is the next. On the next one go and get the 2 chests and head down to the stairs. On this floor go left and down and get the 2 chests, then go all the way left and get those 3, go up and get the one there, go right and get the 4 there, then go up and left to the stairs. On the final floor go left then up and then left and down, into the building, up, out and around (sounds more complicated than it is) and you'll get to Kraken's room. Kraken is easy enough. Cast ALIT to avoid his LIT2 and INV2 might be good too. Use FAST and fight and cast your best LIT spells. You know the drill, step up, light the orb, get out. Chapter 7: Lupa? Lupa?: Well, you learned Lefeinish from Dr. Unne, how about you go to Lefein? Park your airship in the small spot near the lake east of the huge desert and walk south. Talk to everybody here (to fit in better, put the WW on top so you look like everybody here) and one of them will give them the chime. On the northeast part of town find a path going out and keep going east and you'll get to a magic shop. You can buy NUKE and LIF2 here. (Ya' prolly should'a brought some money, they're 60000 each.) Now that you have the chime you can go to the Mirage Tower. Park on the grassy spot on the east side of the big desert and walk northwest. Hmm, This Water Tastes Suspiciously Like Sand: There are a hell of a lot of treasures here, you'll probably use EXIT a few times getting it, selling it, and coming back. The first floor of the Mirage Tower is pretty simple. You can go in the door and out the other to the stairs but there are some good treasures in the room. The Aegis Shield is the best shield in the game, it protects against things like glance. The Heal Helmet is handy. It isn't the best helmet but it will cast HEAL on your party. (Since there are only three ribbons in the game the fighter can make up some for not getting one by using the Aegis Shield. That leaves room for the Heal Helmet.) The Vorpal isn't very good but it looks cool. On the next floor just go around counter-clockwise until you get to the room. Go up for the stairs, go to to go in the room for treasure. There's some good stuff here. The Sun Sword is the best you can get right now,and the Dragon Armor is the best in the game. Thor's Hammer is the best WW weapon (other than Masmune) and it casts LIT2. The next floor has the transporter to the Sky Castle. This is where you need the cube you got in the Waterfall. As you enter the room you fight a blue dragon. Use normal boss fighting stategies, he can cast Thunder so use ALIT. He's weak to fire but don't waste all your powerful spells. Must've Been That Bean I Had For Dinner: The Sky Castle isn't exactly mazy in any way so I don't even have to tell you where to go in the first 2 floors, just go into all the rooms and get all the treasure. In the third floor there are chests left, up, and right but not down. The transporter is to the left and down. Here's a rundown of the treasures: There's a ribbon, the adamant (take it to the dwarf to get Xcalibur), the White and Black Shirts (just about as good as the gold bracelet, and they cast good spells), the ProCape is the only shield the WW & BW can use (I think it works like a ProRing too), and the Katana is the best Ninja weapon (except Masmune). There's also a window on this floor. Here's a map of the next floor: A + + + + + + + + + B + + + + + TYPO: The NPSG only shows this much of the map: A + + + + + + + B You start at A and need to go to B. The pattern repeats itself. The next floor is just a long bridge leading up to Tiamat's room. The bridge is rather dangerous tho. Sorcerers are fairly common and there's a 1 in 64 chance of fighting WarMech, the hardest SOB this game has to offer. He's much harder than Tiamat (same HP, much higher attack) and even rivals the final boss in difficulty. There's a big payoff tho, 32000 gold and experience. Anywho, usual stuff on Tiamat, FAST, fight, strong spells. Tia is weak to BANE so use the BANE sword you found on a lower floor repeatedly. Okay, the four orbs are lit. As the window told you, go back to the Temple of Fiends. It's Just a Jump to the Left... In the Temple of Fiends go into Garland's room and use the Black Orb. It will turn into a transporter that will take you to the past. Watch out for worms and gas dragons, you probably won't be able to run from either. On the first floor go into the bottom right corner and use the stairs there. Take the stairs you see there too. On this floor go down and into the center room. Watch out for the Phantom waiting as you enter. It's undead so fire and harm will do good. You get a measily 1 G and 1 exp for beating it but there are two chests in the room containing 45000G & 55000G. This is where you finally use the LUTE. Walk up the the stone plate and use the LUTE and the plate will shatter just as in the Earth Cave. On the next floor walk up to the top left corner and use those stairs. On the next floor just walk over to the top left corner and take the stairs. The following floor is the Earth Floor, monsters from the Earth Cave live here. Go up and round the rooms and Lich is guarding the stairs. The Lich is more powerful than before and able to cast NUKE! Use AFIR and the strategies you used the first time around. The next floor is the Fire Floor. The rooms in the lower area of this floor have a ProRing, ProCape, and Katana if you want to look. To reach Kary and the exit go up into the room, right, and out the other door. Kary is harder than before but doesn't know any fancy new spells. The battle shouldn't be all that hard. On the Water Floor go in and out of the room, right and down, into the big room. When you get out of that room go up into the other one, left and out. Head down and to the right, Kraken will be waiting half way thru the narrow hall. Kraken can hit pretty hard this time around. On the Wind Floor, first go all the way down then all the way right and take the long hall over to get the Masmune, the most powerful sword, equipable by any class. Some may recommend you give it to the WW, but that's really only useful if you EXIT and save. When fighting bosses you want your WW free to cast spells so give Moony to your second fighting character. Now go all the way back to where you started on this floor and go right from there. Tiamat is waiting on the little hall between the two sections. Remember to use the Bane Sword on her until it works. The stairs (up and to the right) lead to the final floor. Relax as you casually stroll down to Chaos' room, there are no enemies on this floor. Upon entering the room you see... Garland? He tells of his evil time loop scheme and turns out to be Chaos. Chaos, as you would expect, is pretty damn hard. He lives up to his name. He can cast just about anything: FIR3, LIT3, ICE3, NUKE, FAST, and a powerfull spell of each element. Cast FAST on your fighting types, cast WALL on anyone who doesn't have a ribbon then INV2 a couple of times. Attack and use powerful spells like NUKE and FADE then work your way down from there. At some point he may cast CUR4!! You can recover from that if you're strong enough. If you're lucky he may get it out of the way early. You did it, eh? Enjoy the ending. Rather than clearing anything up about the time loop, it adds to the confusion. Now, try to beat it with 4 White Mages!
