Wolves are usually found together in large packs, and often with Grey Wolves, but may also be with Imps and Grey Imps. They're only found near the beginning of the game.

There's not too much strategy for wolves. Early on if you come across a lot of them you may want to run away because they're too powerful, and later on they may not be worth your time. :) Fir2 becomes a nice way to clean house once you get it.

Wolf is the same in every version. I guess it's not hard to screw up. Wolves are one of the very few creatures in this game that don't have a mythological origin. Wolves are large dog-like animals that hunt in packs and will rarely attack humans. Anyway, they return in some form in at least FF2, 3, 5, 6, 10, and 10-2, but I think the simple name of Wolf stops here. They can also be found Dungeons & Dragons and Dragon Warrior, among any number of other things.
